Position Summary

The Site Superintendent is responsible for the daily management and oversight of commercial construction job sites, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and professionalism. This position plays a critical leadership role by coordinating subcontractors, managing schedules, and ensuring compliance with all safety and construction standards. The ideal candidate leads by example, communicates effectively with all project stakeholders, and takes full ownership of site success.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Execution & Oversight

  • Supervise and coordinate all on-site construction activities and subcontractors.
  • Maintain daily jobsite presence and walk-throughs to assess progress, safety, and quality.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues that may cause delays or budget overruns.
  • Ensure all work is performed according to contract documents, plans, and specifications.
  • Confirm all subs and trades are using up-to-date construction documents and follow the approved plans.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Develop, maintain, and communicate the construction schedule, including a 2-week lookahead.
  • Minimize downtime between trades and ensure seamless handoffs.
  • Coordinate inspections, material deliveries, utility tie-ins, and equipment staging.
  • Hold weekly subcontractor meetings and document progress via meeting minutes.

Quality Assurance

  • Verify readiness for each project phase before it begins (e.g., drywall complete before paint).
  • Conduct continuous quality checks and ensure workmanship meets Midwest standards.
  • Install finishes and fixtures with sequence and protection in mind to reduce damage.
  • Address RFIs and collaborate with the PM on potential change orders to maintain project flow.

Safety & Compliance

  • Lead by example—always wearing proper PPE and enforcing Midwest’s safety standards.
  • Ensure all subcontractors comply with OSHA regulations and site-specific safety measures.
  • Monitor temporary safety requirements such as guardrails, floor openings, and enclosures.
  • Maintain all required signage, permits, and first aid/fire safety materials on site.

Site Setup & Maintenance

  • Ensure clean, organized, and professional jobsite appearance at all times.
  • Manage setup of trailers, signage, port-a-johns, dumpsters, and utilities.
  • Coordinate jobsite logistics, storage, and site security.

Communication & Leadership

  • Act as the main point of contact for inspectors, owners, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Foster strong relationships and communicate expectations clearly and respectfully.
  • Manage project documentation including daily logs, meeting notes, RFIs, and submittals.
  • Uphold Midwest’s mindset of quality, respect, and accountability.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience as a Site Superintendent or similar field leadership role in commercial construction.
  • Proven experience managing full jobsite operations, subcontractor coordination, and project documentation.
  • Deep understanding of construction drawings, schedules, safety practices, and inspections.
  • Proficiency in construction management software, scheduling tools, and mobile field apps.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management
  • OSHA 30-hour certification
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Familiarity with Procore or similar tools
  • Experience in fast-paced or multi-project environments
