Position Summary:
The General Trades Team Member supports Midwest Construction Group’s commercial projects by completing a variety of hands-on construction tasks, including rough carpentry, finish work, punch work, jobsite coordination, and general construction support. This role is intended for a self-motivated, skilled individual who can work independently and alongside superintendents and subcontractors to maintain quality, safety, and schedule. The General Trades Team Member plays an important role in delivering a polished final product and maintaining Midwest’s standards on every jobsite.
Key Responsibilities:
General Construction & Carpentry Support
- Perform a wide range of construction tasks including framing, blocking, backing, trim, doors/hardware, casework, and miscellaneous carpentry.
- Support jobsite progress through layout assistance, installations, and general trade coordination as assigned.
- Assist with demo, repairs, field modifications, and small scope construction work as needed.
- Complete punch list and closeout tasks to ensure projects meet Midwest quality standards.
Quality & Professionalism
- Maintain high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.
- Protect finished surfaces and materials; reduce rework and damage through proper sequencing and care.
- Support Midwest’s reputation for clean, professional jobsites and quality execution.
- Coordinate with superintendents and PMs when issues arise that may affect schedule, scope, or quality.
Safety & Jobsite Standards
- Follow all OSHA requirements and Midwest safety policies.
- Maintain use of required PPE and safe tool handling practices.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or potential hazards immediately.
Jobsite Support & Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Site Superintendents and subcontractors to help support schedule needs.
- Assist with jobsite logistics such as material handling, deliveries, staging, and organization.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members, subcontractors, clients, and inspectors.
- Represent Midwest well through professionalism, accountability, and strong work ethic.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hands-on construction experience preferred (commercial construction strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of general carpentry and construction methods.
- Ability to read basic plans, specifications, and field directions.
- Experience operating standard construction tools and equipment safely.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in physically demanding environments.
- High level of accountability, workmanship pride, and team mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification
- Experience with commercial punch/closeout work
- Ability to lead small tasks independently and problem-solve in the field
